Caspian Sea states should maintain peace, stability, security in their region - Baku

Caspian Sea states should preserve their region as a zone of peace, stability and security, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov said.

"We believe that measures which are building confidence between the sides should do no harm to the security of Caspian Sea nations but should rather provide for their equal security, should promote Caspian stability with respect for territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of states, and should take into account the interests of the countries. We should preserve the Caspian Sea as a zone of peace, tranquility, stability and security," Khalafov said at a meeting of the working group on the Caspian Sea's status in Baku on Wednesday.

The working group will address mutually advantageous cooperation issues, he said. "Hopefully, every problem will be resolved consistent with the international law of the sea, with due respect for the sovereign rights of Caspian Sea nations ensured by confidence-building measures," he said.
