Celebrity Ambassadors praised for their role in Baku 2015

The Baku 2015 Celebrity Ambassadors were recognized for their important contribution to the success of the inaugural European Games at a ceremony in the BEGOC headquarters this morning.

Many of the Ambassadors, who were so vital in generating public interest in the European Games, attended and were presented with plaques and certificates in recognition of their support for the 17 day event.

Minister of Youth and Sport for the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chief Executive of Baku 2015, Azad Rahimov, said: ‘Our Celebrity Ambassadors were another successful Azerbaijan team at the European Games. Their enthusiasm and support of this inaugural event was a key element in ensuring there was wide spread public awareness of the European Games.  I am delighted that we could have an event to mark their significant roles.’

The presentations were made by Baku 2015 Chief Operating Officer Simon Clegg along with Baku 2015 Corporate Director Elchin Safarov and Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Youth Foundation, Farhad Hajiyev.

Mr Clegg welcomed the Celebrity Ambassadors and said: ‘You are all extremely busy and high profile people who gave up your time freely to support the European Games. For that we will always be extremely grateful and we thank you. As Celebrity Ambassadors you played a hugely important part in inspiring the Azerbaijani population to back this event.’

Also joining the celebration were some members of the highly-acclaimed Baku 2015 Flamekeeper volunteers and Azer Garib, Baku 2015 Celebrity Ambassador: ‘These 17 days were spectacular. I want to specifically mention 4 moments – great job our athletes, volunteers, organisers and security team has done. We all are looking forward to being ambassadors of the future sporting events in our country!’
