Prolific Declan Rooney will be a dad for the 54th time in a few months in his staggering crusade to help women struggling to conceive.

The 43-year-old has notched up 31 births this year alone by starting his own sperm donation site.

Declan, who has eight children of his own with four different women, intends to continue his mission by creating his own app to rival sperm clinic services.

Family campaigners recently responded in uproar to the idea.

But Declan, who lives in Middlesbrough, North Yorks, wants to hit back at critics of unregulated sperm donation.

The former graffiti artist said: "I'm a nice guy. Why can't people understand I am just doing this to help out?

"Egg donors get treated like saints, sperm donors get treated like back alley, smutty boys.

"But I'm not doing a bad thing. I'm not ashamed. I have helped women created families."

He continued: "All of the recipients keep in touch. All the babies are healthy and happy. I have a watchful eye. They send me feedback and tell me how the children are doing."

Declan, who has also worked in web design, insists he doesn't have any sexual contact with the women and he checks potential parents out to ensure they can afford a child.

He also said he warns women to stay away from private donors who try to charge for their sperm, which is illegal.

Last week, Daily Star Online reported how eating lots of fruits and vegetables could actually decrease a man's sperm count.
