It may have escaped your attention but today is Facebook’s 10th birthday. For better or for worse, the little site named 'thefacebook' created in Mark Zuckerberg's dorm room on 4 February 2004 has become a global phenomenon.

Facebook is arguably more than a website now - it's a part of how society thinks about itself; the most visible and the most influential social network that exists. To celebrate this we thought we'd look into some of the more surprising facts about the site - check the gallery below for more.Facebook will be marking the occasion in its own way, sending OUT personalised videos of ‘the last 10 years’ to the site’s users. Each video will offer a slightly cheesy montage of individuals’ photos, videos and status updates set to a typically uplifting soundtrack.  Zuckerberg himself has been publicly reflecting on the site’s phenomenal success, asking himself “why were we the ones to build this?”His answer? He and his team simply “cared more”.“While some doubted that connecting the world was actually important, we were building. While others doubted that this would be sustainable, you were forming lasting connections,” writes Zuckerberg.“That's why I'm even more excited about the next ten years than the last. The first ten years were about bootstrapping this network. Now we have the resources to help people across the world solve even bigger and more important problems.”(independent.co.uk)ANN.Az
