About 15,000 jobs to be created during Shah Deniz Phase 2 project implementation, says SOCAR

State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has been working to develop modern welding technologies, which is an important component of the oil and gas industry, Halik Mammadov, SOCAR Vice President for Personnel and Information Technologies, said yesterday during the seminar “New Technologies and Welding Materials in Industry.”

He said SOCAR’s divisions currently number over 2,000 welding specialists.

Development of this area is important for implementation of big projects in the country. About 15,000 jobs will be create during development of the Shah Deniz Phase 2, of which about 4,000-5,000 ones will be welders, Mammadov said.

He said that the specialists play an important role in construction of the new complex for oil and gas refining and petrochemical products manufacture.

Two offshore platforms will be built to produce additional 16 billion cub.m. of gas a year from the Shah Deniz 2. The Sangachal terminal could be expanded and a new about 400-km-long gas pipeline with the carrying capacity of 16 billion cub.m. will be built in Azerbaijan. The works on the Shah-Deniz-2 will start in quarter 2, 2014.
