Adnan Januzaj has completed a loan move to Borussia Dortmund after the German club beat Valencia in the race to sign the Belgium international.
The Spanish club tried to sing Januzaj on Sunday but were unable to get the deal done and he now completed a switch to Dortmund on a season-long loan.
Januzaj posted a picture with a Dortmund shirt on Twitter with the message: 'Pleased to sign for Dortmund! Looking forward to new season.'
Januzaj, who has been handed the No 9 shirt, added on the Dourtmund website: 'Borussia Dortmund are a great club, the fans here are supposed to be really incredible. I want to achieve great things with the team.'
Sporting director Michael Zorc added: 'Adnan is a highly talented and technically adept player who rounds off our attack.'
Januzaj has played for United this season, but boss Louis van Gaal appears happy for him to move to Germany.
Two weeks ago, Van Gaal reacted angrily to suggestions that he did not give Januzaj enough of a chance to make an impact last season - but added that the winger needed to find consistency.
Van Gaal said then: 'Adnan had eight starts last season and 14 substitutions so he didn't have any chances? This is not true, in my opinion.
'The other players have no right? (to a place in the team) Only Adnan has a right? He has to compete with 23 or 24 other players.
'He is 20 years old. The characteristics of a young player is he is not consistent. He has to show that. Maybe he can show it this season. It is possible.'
Januzaj missed the defeat at Swansea because he has a slight hip injury but it is not expected to hold up the move which will have to be signed off before midnight on Monday.
The 20-year-old Belgium international joined United from Anderlecht in 2011 but did not make his first-team debut until the 2013 Community Shield against Wigan.
His only goal for United this season was the winner against Aston Villa earlier this month, but he scored four goals under David Moyes in the 2013-14 season.
