Azerbaijan has given Afghanistan "the green light" to participate in the planned transport corridor Lazurit, Shakir Kargar, the Afghan president's special envoy on CIS issues, said in an interview with Interfax.
"Afghanistan and Azerbaijan have opened a new transit corridor Lazurit. It's Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey. We are actively working on this project. Azerbaijan has given us the 'green light' to work on this project," Kargar said.
Kargar said Afghanistan's participation in the project will enable the country to import its goods to Europe using this corridor.
"I think the route will be ready by the end of this year," he said.
Kargar also said Afghanistan and Azerbaijan are conducting negotiations on the construction of customs terminals on the Afghan-Turkmen border.
"These terminals and he Turgundi terminal in the west and Akina in northern Afghanistan. They have checkpoints and customs terminals. We have also conducted negotiations on Azeri investment in Afghanistan, including in the textile and other sectors," Kargar said.
