Ambassador: Polish architects left their mark on history of Baku

Polish architects left a significant mark on the history of Baku in the 19th-20th centuries, the Ambassador of Poland to Azerbaijan Rafal Poborski said at an event dedicated to the Polish architectural heritage in Baku.

The ambassador noted that over the past 30 years, relations between Azerbaijan and Poland have been developing in the political, social and cultural spheres, and the development of this cooperation is of particular importance for Poland.

"Polish architects left their mark creating significant buildings for the capital of Azerbaijan. Now, this is one of the reasons that attract Polish tourists to Azerbaijan, where they can not only get acquainted with the Polish heritage, but also feel the atmosphere of that time. We hope that cultural ties with Azerbaijan will continue to develop," the ambassador said.

Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Culture Sevda Mammadaliyeva, in turn, noted that this year Azerbaijan and Poland are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and today's event is evidence of close cultural ties between the two countries.

According to Azerbaijan Tourism Board CEO Florian Sengstschmid, a special tour and a map have been prepared for tourists visiting Baku to get acquainted with the Polish architectural heritage. He noted that Polish architects participated in the construction of such buildings as the Palace of Happiness in Baku, the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences, etc.

"I hope that Polish tourists and tourists from other countries will be able to use this tour in the future," Sengstschmid said.
