The secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Manuel Augusto, has expressed the country's desire to expand ties with Azerbaijan based on mutual interest and key fields to ensure the exchange of experiences and expand the legal framework between the two countries.
This was expressed in Baku, Azerbaijan, at a meeting that gathered the visiting secretary Manuel Domingos Augusto and the Azerbaijani foreign minister, Elmar Mammadyarov.
The parties focused on the exchange of views on cooperation within the framework of international organisations.
The secretary of state's visit is part of a campaign by the Angolan Government to seek the support for its bid for a UN Security Council non-permanent seat for the 2015-2016 period.
The elections are scheduled for September this year during the 69th UN General Assembly session.
During the meeting, Manuel Augusto recalled the technical and academic relationship between Angola and Azerbaijan. He added that they seized the opportunity to discuss the international situation.
According to him, there are many aspects in common on the fundamental principles of the foreign policy between the two countries.
In his turn, the Azerbaijan Foreign minister expressed his country 's will to establish an exchange with Angola in various fields, with stress to the areas of hydrocarbons, education and agriculture.
Elmar Mammadyarov also indicated the possibility of cooperation with his country in the field of training of experts in various areas of knowledge.
As to staff training in his country, the official mentioned as an example Baku, where engineer Jose Eduardo dos Santos, the current president of Angola, trained.
He said that Angola has several investment opportunities which must be implemented through the creation of a legal basis for bilateral cooperation.
