Armenia considers diversifying gas supplies, including from Azerbaijan

Armenia may purchase gas from Azerbaijan as part of supply diversification, Babken Tunyan, a deputy from the "Civil Contract" faction and deputy head of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, said during a briefing in parliament, reported from Armenian media.

"If a situation arises where we can establish trade relations with Azerbaijan, and if we need any resource, we should consider who provides a cheaper, quality resource. If Azerbaijan supplies this resource, then this issue can be discussed. At the same time, of course, we must maintain the principle of diversification and alternative sources," he said.

Tunyan reminded that Armenia mainly buys gas from Russia, as well as from Iran, and acquiring gas from a third source would only increase the country's level of energy independence and security.

It should be noted that earlier, during the II All-Armenian Summit, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not rule out that Armenia could import gas from Azerbaijan.
