Armenia needs to withdraw its troops from Azerbaijan's occupied territory, British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Irfan Siddiq said.
Speaking at a meeting with students from Baku's Khazar University on March 3, Siddiq said everybody agrees that Armenia has to pull its forces out of the occupied territory.
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict broke out in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian forces captured nearly 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally-recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent districts, during the war that killed 30,000 people and displaced 1 million Azerbaijanis.
Siddiq said UK-Azerbaijani relations are excellent. He said the UK is the largest foreign investor in Azerbaijan.
"We have invested in Azerbaijan more than any other country. This is mainly in the energy sector through BP and other companies engaged in oil development in the oil and gas industries," Siddiq said.
He said many Azerbaijani students go to the UK to study at British universities.
