Armenian president, IAEA head mull issues of nuclear energy development

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturian has discussed the development of nuclear energy with Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos,  reported from Armenian media.

During the conversation, the parties exchanged views on the development of the nuclear sector in Armenia as green energy, reads the statement.

Earlier the Armenian media reported that it is planned to build a new nuclear power plant within 8-10 years. For this purpose, various options are being considered and the experience of foreign partners from Russia, the US and South Korea is being studied.

The Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant operates in Armenia. The installed thermal power of one unit is 1,375 MW, electrical power is 440 MW. The operating life of the nuclear power plant was last year extended until 2026.
