The body of an Azerbaijani national killed in the Armenian-occupied Kalbacar District three months ago was handed over to the Azerbaijani authorities.

The handover, mediated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), passed off without incidents, said the Baku-based State Committee for Hostages and Missing Persons.

Hasan Hasanov, 36, was shot and killed by the Armenian occupying army while visiting Kalbacar. 

Two other people travelling with him were taken captive.

Armenia captured Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts in a war after the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991.

No peace agreement has been signed after major hostilities ended with a ceasefire in 1994.
