Armenia’s National Assembly rejects project providing for criminalization of Karabakh's recognition as part of Azerbaijan

The National Assembly of Armenia has refused to include in the agenda of the plenary session a draft law providing for the criminalization of the ban on the recognition of Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan,  reported from Armenian media.

As many as 57 deputies of the Civil Contract faction voted against and 26 opposition deputies supported the document.

Previously, the Commission on State Legal Affairs rejected a legislative initiative to amend the Criminal Code of this country.

In this regard, the parliamentary opposition accused the ruling faction of failing to fulfill its election promises in the context of the Karabakh issue. In particular, the secretary of the Hayastan faction Artsvik Minasyan, addressing Speaker Alen Simonyan, stated that the ruling faction not only violated its election promise in this matter, but is also doing everything diametrically opposed to this promise.

In response, the speaker said that he did not understand what the opposition had to do with the authorities’ election promises, and that the opposition itself came to parliament with the goal of killing deputies from the ruling force.

"You showed people a staged execution and were happy about it. You insulted us, our voters, using all possible epithets. What else do you want from us and our voters? Some of these people voted for us just so that you wouldn’t end up here,” Simonyan said.
