Arsenal plot stunning move to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The 34-year-old will be a free agent in June after failing to agree a new deal with Paris St-Germain.

Ibrahimovic is keen to end his career in the Premier League with Manchester United desperate to sign him.

United club chiefs have told Starsport that they are willing to offer him a two-year deal worth £250,000-a-week.

But the Gunners are targeting him too as they bid to strengthen their strike-force.

Arsene Wenger is under the cosh at Arsenal having failed to mount a serious title challenge.

His team have scored the fewest goals out of any of the top-four side and the Frenchman knows that must change.

Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud are joint top scorers with 12 while rivals are far above and beyond. Harry Kane has netted 24, Sergio Aguero 23 and Jamie Vardy 22.

Wenger last month moved to play down any talk that the Gunners were chasing the Sweden striker.

When asked if there was interest in Ibrahimovic, he said: "Look, at the moment, no.

"We are not on that case. We have other worries at the moment. It’s short-term.

"We are not on Zlatan’s case. Even at 34, he’s had a great season at PSG.”

But Starsport understand the Gunners are taking an active interest in luring him to the Emirates.

They know they will have to make him the club’s highest player if they are to make a move..

Reports in France suggest a number of Chinese clubs are interested in Ibrahimovic and that he has already turned down an offer worth £54m a year.

But stumping up mega cash might not put off Wenger.

The club won’t have to pay a transfer fee and Wenger knows he has to mount a series title tilt with 12 months left on his contract.

Wenger once offered a teenage Ibrahimovic a trial at Arsenal.

But he rejected the chance to come as he found the offer insulting.

Ibrahimovic said: ”I didn't have a trial - I came for talks with Arsenal.

"But Wenger wanted me to do a trial and I said: 'I don't do trials. You know who I am.’”
