Azerbaijan, Bulgaria discuss gas supplies via IGB

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and his Bulgarian counterpart Rosen Hristov have discussed gas supplies via the Greece-Bulgaria intercorrector (IGB), which are scheduled to start from October 1.

During a telephone conversation it was confirmed that Azerbaijani gas supplies will go through the IGB at the appointed time.

Reported from the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy that the parties also discussed the technical possibility of supplying additional volumes of Azerbaijani gas to Bulgaria.

"Last week, Rosen Hristov announced the resumption of negotiations with Azerbaijan to increase natural gas supplies to our country in order to guarantee and provide the necessary amount for the heating season," the ministry said in a statement.

The supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe - Italy, Greece and Bulgaria - through the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) began on December 31, 2020.

The SGC, which includes the development of the Shah Deniz field and a chain of gas pipelines originating in Azerbaijan and stretching to southern Italy, was created with the aim of diversifying natural gas supplies to the European Union (EU) and reducing the number of EU countries with a single source of supply. The last European section of the SGC is the Trans Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP).
