Azerbaijan currently provides almost all of Georgia’s need for natural gas and can increase the volumes should the demand grow, said Mahir Mammadov, head of SOCAR’s Georgia unit.
Georgia receives 6 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas a day, just 200,000 cubic meters short of the country’s need for the fuel, Mammadov said.
Georgia’s Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze had earlier said Georgia would start talks with Gazprom to meet the country’s growing need for gas.
