According to the press-service of Georgian Railway JSC, representatives of large-scale transport and logistics operators of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia agreed to establish a new consortium to transport goods from China to Europe within frames of the meeting in Istanbul.
Also, KTZ Express (subsidiary company of JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy), CJSC Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company, and the Azerbaijani company Caravan Logistics, as well as Trans Caucasus Terminals LLC, which is the subsidiary of Georgian Railway, expressed readiness to become the founders of the consortium along with the Chinese company Minsheng Logistics. The Turkish party will be represented in the consortium as an associated member.
According to the Director of Trans Caucasus Terminals LLC, Levan Sulaberidze, the company have already started to work in all countries located along the Trans-Caspian transport route together with co-founders of the consortium.
It was decided to organize the first demonstration train from China to Europe, and run a regular container service in the direction, noted L.Sulaberidze.
He noted that within frames of the project during 2016, it is planned to transport the first few thousands of containers from China to Turkey and Europe through the territory of Georgia, and also start shipping via Ukraine to Northern and Eastern Europe.
Thus, the railway Baku-Tbilisi-Kars would become one of the components of the Trans-Caspian transport route, with the total length of 826 km, which commissioning is expected in 2016.
