Azerbaijan cuts transit fee for Turkish cargo shipments via Caspian Sea

Azerbaijan’s state-owned Caspian Sea Shipping Company lowered the transit fee for Turkish cargo shipments to Central Asia via the Caspian Sea by up to 20 percent.

The discount was granted under instructions by President Ilham Aliyev, the company said on its website.

The price of a one-way trip for a 16.5-meter truck on a ferry from the Azerbaijani port of Alat to the Kazakh port of Aktau was lowered to $1,200 dollars. A round-trip will cost $2,100.

Russia last week blocked the transit of Turkish trucks delivering goods to Central Asia at the Georgian border in retaliation for the downing of its jet over Syria.

The issue was raised with President Ilham Aliyev during Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu's visit to Baku last week.
