Azerbaijan exports less oil, more gas in Jan.-Aug.

Azerbaijan exported less oil in the first eight months of 2014 year-on-year as crude production continued to decline.

The country delivered 22.8 million tons of oil in Jan.-Aug., down from 23.2 million tons a year earlier, according to the State Customs Committee.

Gas exports grew to 5.5 billion cubic meters from 4.4 billion cubic meters.

Azerbaijan saw its Jan.-Aug. oil production decline to 28.6 million tons from 29.1 million tons year-on-year, the State Statistics Committee said earlier this month.

Production of marketable gas expanded to 12.3 billion cubic meters from 11.7 billion cubic meters.

Most of the crude exports were carried out via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline led by British energy giant BP.

BTC shipped 18.65 million tons of Azeri oil during the period, down from 18.74 million tons a year earlier.

The Baku-Supsa link, also operated by BP, exported 2.8 million tons compared to 2.6 million tons delivered in Jan.-Aug. last year.

Supplies via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline almost halved, falling to 678,728 tons from 1.2 million tons.

Azerbaijan also exported 634,802 tons of oil by rail, down from 628,331 tons.
