Indonesia is interested in expanding relations with Azerbaijan not only in the energy sector but also in non-oil areas, Gusti Nyoman Wiratmaja Puja, director general for oil and gas at Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, told Azartac.
Puja invited Azerbaijan to participate in Indonesia's clean energy projects.
"Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Indonesia in the field of oil and gas started in 2005. Later, this relationship received a boost from Indonesian state oil company Pertamina and Azerbaijan State Oil Company (SOCAR). Cooperation between Indonesian and Azerbaijani oil companies is a major source of revenue for both countries," he said.
"Of course, we are keen to expand our relations with Azerbaijan. Despite the decline in oil prices on world markets Indonesia will implement new energy projects. These projects will cover not only oil and gas sector, but also the areas of electricity, alternative and renewable energy sources. We want Azerbaijan to be actively involved in these projects which are to be implemented in Indonesia because it is of great importance for us to benefit from the experience Azerbaijan has gained in this sphere," Wiratmaja Puja said.
He said that Indonesian President Joko Widodo attaches great importance to developing infrastructure and exchanging experience with other countries.
"Indonesia is also interested in expanding student exchange with Azerbaijan. This may be realized between SOCAR's Baku Higher Oil School and Indonesian oil school," he added.
