Azerbaijan, Iran agree to defence equipment manufacturing, training

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence Industry (MODIAR) is to work with Iran on supplying defence equipment to the Islamic Republic's armed forces, the ministry announced on 22 April.

The agreement signed between MODIAR and an Iranian delegation, led by Iranian Minister of Defence Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan, covers areas of joint production of military equipment, as well as technological exchanges and military training.

The agreements with Iran also encompass wider defence and security areas, such as counter-terrorism, border security, and regional security.

The agreement is the latest in a number that Azerbaijan has relating to defence industrial engagement, with the Azerbaijanis also renewing a bilateral agreement with Pakistan in late March and hosting a delegation from South Africa in early April.
