Iran’s Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) inked an agreement to jointly explore oil and gas reservoirs in the Caspian Sea as well as environmental issues.
Deputy Head of the RIPI for technological and international affairs Amir Abbas Hosseini said the Caspian Sea’s environmental issues and boosting extraction of oil and gas from its reservoirs are the major topics of the agreement which was signed on Saturday, Shana reported.
“The institute can offer SOCAR its achievements in dredging polluted residues in the sea,” he said.
Tehran has in recent years focused seriously on development of ties with neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan which enjoys various commonalties with Iran in religious, historical and cultural fields.
