Parviz Hashimli, a correspondent with Bizim Yol daily newspaper, was sentenced to eight years in prison for smuggling and illegal possession of arms. 

Another defendant in the case, Tavakkul Qurbanov, got 8.5 years in prison on the same charges.

In his final speech in court yesterday, Hashimli rejected the charges.
