Azerbaijan opened a ferry terminal as part of the first phase of the new Baku International Sea Trade Port Complex.
Dutch company Royal Haskoning drafted the port’s master plan and project in line with an order from the Transport Ministry of Azerbaijan.
At the first stage, the port’s cargo transhipment will be 10 million metric tons of cargo and 50,000 containers per year.
At the second phase the port’s capacity will reach 17 million metric tons of cargo and 150,000 containers, and by the end of the third stage - 25 million metric tons of cargo and 1 million containers.
According to the project, the creation of a logistics centre at the port is also of great importance.
At the initial stage it is planned to store there 100,000 containers and render various services to the cargo owners.
