Azerbaijan plans to renew its taxi fleet with 500 more London cabs before the country’s capital hosts the inaugural European Games next year, the Transportation Ministry said.
The country has so far bought 1,000 London cabs manufactured by Manganese Bronze, said Namiq Hasanli, a spokesman for the ministry.
The purple cabs were first seen in Baku’s streets just before the city hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012.
They are operated by privately owned Baku Taxi MMC.
Hasanov said the ministry is also in talks with German, South Korean and Turkish manufacturers to buy new taxi cars and large buses for Baku.
