Albania and Azerbaijan signed a memo on cooperation in the development of a master plan for Albania's gasification, Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR said.

Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Natig Aliyev, signed the Memorandum of Cooperation for the Development of Gas Master Plan of Albania.

Gjiknuri highlighted the fact that Albania will be the real beneficiary of gas in the future, while adding that Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is a very important project for Albania and "companies should be active."

"The purpose of this document is to launch gas master plan cooperation, where our country is a real beneficiary of this project. Also, this means diversification of energy sources and greater certainty for the sector," said Gjiknuri.

Meanwhile, Aliyev expressed satisfaction with the cooperation.

"SOCAR is preparing the ground for the gasification of your country, the study of terrain," said Aliyev.

The memorandum was signed as part of the Azerbaijani delegation's visit to Albania, which included Aliyev, Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev.
