Azerbaijan to host an int'l conference on mine problem

An international conference will be held in Azerbaijan to discuss the mine problem, one of the most serious threats to peace and security in the world, to raise awareness of the problem of mass mining in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan at the international level, to jointly discuss the challenges and opportunities in this area.

The conference will be co-organized by the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on March 31 and April 1, 2022.

Angola, Cambodia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Jordan, Sudan, Serbia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and other countries will take part in the event, which will cover the topic "Humanitarian Demining and Sustainable Development Goals." About 120 participants, including officials from about 30 countries, are expected to attend the conference. Participants will also include 20 demining experts, members of foreign parliaments, representatives of international organizations, and embassies.

The conference will include a visit to Aghdam, a visit to the ANAMA regional mobile camp, a briefing at the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on the liberated territories of the Karabakh Economic Region, and a visit to the demining areas.

The second day of the conference will feature panel discussions on a comprehensive approach to global demining efforts, current challenges and opportunities, application of best practices in Azerbaijan, demining activities, and sustainable development goals.
