Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR aims to resume gas supply to Russia after completing the restoration work on the gas pipeline running in a northerly direction, SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said on Tuesday.
Abdullayev said that SOCAR is not supplying gas to Russia now as the repair and restoration work is underway on the pipeline that runs from Azerbaijan to Russia.
"The gas supply hasn't been resumed yet. But this doesn't have any impact on the contract, as the terms of this contract allow us to supply gas at any time," he stressed.
Azerbaijan, which had been supplying 3 million cubic meters of gas per day to Russia, halted gas shipment to Russia for technical reasons on January 13.
Azerbaijan provided Russia with about 1.37 billion cubic meters of gas in 2013, according to estimates by Prime business news agency, down 31.5 percent from the year before.
