Fourteen Iranian inmates in Azeri prisons have been transferred to the country, an Iranian official in charge of consular affairs at the Iranian Embassy in Baku announced on Sunday, according to Tehran Times.
The transfer took place in line with the implementation of the agreement for transfer of prisoners between the two countries, Mohsen Molaei added.
All of the inmates, who were serving their sentences in Azeri prisons on drug-related charges, were handed over to Iranian officials at the border city of Astara and will serve the rest of their sentences in Iranian jails, Molaei said.
In late March, eleven Iranian inmates were also transferred to the country from Azerbaijan and two Azeri prisoners, who were serving in Iranian jails, were transferred to Azerbaijan.
