Azerbaijan vacated its seat at the UN Security Council on Dec. 31 as the Caspian Sea nation’s two-year term as non-permanent member of the body expired.
For the first time in its history, Azerbaijan was directly involved in discussions and decision-making process at various levels on the international agenda. The country demonstrated a “principled” position on a number of topics as a UNSC member, state news agency Azartac said.
Azerbaijan assumed UN Security Council rotating presidency twice, in May 2012 and October 2013. The country organized a number of discussions and events on global important issues.
