On July 13, Leyla and Arif Yunus were scheduled to appear in court to start their trial. However, the hearing was postponned until July 15, according to Azadliq Radiosu. No reason was given for the decision.
A number of embassy representatives showed up including Kati Piri, a member of the European Parliament who traveled to Baku to attend the hearing.
Leyla Yunus, director of the non-governmental Peace and Democracy Institute, was arrested on July 30, 2014. Her husband Arif was arrested August 5.
The couple was charged with high treason, illegal entrepreneurship, tax evasion, fraud and forgery.
