New studies show that there is no serious seismic threat to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline, Azernews said on February 21.
Experts at the Geology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences who researhed the geodynamic situation along the BTC said there is no serious seismic threat to the pipeline.
The research focused on vertical and horizontal moves of the Earth crust, as well as dynamic features of the ground.
The research used field leveling and gravimetric measurements. Meanwhile, seismic stations along the pipeline recorded four earthquakes.
The studies were supported by BP as part of a project called "Geodynamic monitoring along the BTC pipeline and surrounding areas."
The project is headed by Fakhraddin Gadirov, head of the Geology Institute's Geodynamics and Seismology Department.
