Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry says its forces have detained an Armenian infiltrator.
In a statement issued late on January 28, the ministry said a shoot-out occurred between Azerbaijani forces and a group of Armenian saboteurs along those countries' mutual border.It said a guide for the group, Mamiko Khodzhaian, 65, had been detained.The statement said Khodzhaian was armed and was wounded in the exchange.The report comes amid escalated tension over Azerbaijan's breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region.At least two Azerbaijani soldiers and two soldiers of the unrecognized separatist territory were killed in the last 10 days.Armenian separatists seized the mainly Armenian-populated region of Nagorno-Karabakh from Azerbaijan during a war in the 1990s.Diplomatic efforts to settle the conflict have brought no results.Some 20 soldiers and officers on both sides were killed in 2013.
