A Russian court has sentenced an Azerbaijani citizen to 17 years in jail in a high-profile murder case.
Earlier on July 28, the Moscow City Court found Orkhan Zeynalov guilty of murdering Muscovite Yegor Shcherbakov last year.
Zeynalov pleaded not guilty at his trial, which started on June 30.
He was arrested several days after Shcherbakov was killed on October 10.
Shcherbakov's death sparked violent antimmigrant riots in Moscow's southern district of Biryulyovo.
Several migrant workers from Central Asia and the Caucasus were killed across Russia in the days following the incident.
After the riots, Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed a number of senior Interior Ministry and police officers, including the Biryulyovo district police chief.
Last week, the prosecutor asked the court to sentence Zeynalov to 18 years in jail.
