An Azerbaijani army serviceman has been injured in a landmine explosion in the western Qazax District bordering Armenia, the Ministry of Defense said.

Warrant officer Orxan Haciyev was hospitalized in serious situation. 

The ministry gave no details of the circumstances of the incident.

Azerbaijan is in a state of war with Armenia, which captured nearly one-fifth of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts, in a war in the early 1990s.

Large-scale hostilities ended with a ceasefire in 1994 but no peace agreement has been signed.
