Azerbaijani soldier killed by Armenian fire

An Azerbaijani army serviceman was fatally wounded by Armenian fire on February 5, the Defense Ministry in Baku said.

Private Farid Agayev died of his wounds despite efforts by doctors to save his life, the ministry said on its website.

It didn’t say where the incident happened.

Two Armenians were also killed in fighting with Azerbaijani troops on the same day, according to Armenian media reports.

Armenia captured nearly one-fifth of Azerbaijan’s internationally-recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts, in a war after the Soviet breakup in 1991.

While major hostilities ended with a cease-fire in 1994, no peace agreement has been signed.

Armenia has yet to comply with four UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal from the occupied territory.
