Azeri border units hold tactical drills in Caspian Sea

Azerbaijan's State Border Service has held tactical exercises in the national sector of the Caspian Sea, APA news agency said on 10 October.


The key objective of the drills were to improve readiness of the border units for the protection of the offshore oil and gas fields in the Caspian Sea; to detect and neutralize possible terrorist and subversive groups; to improve the command capabilities and the conduct of border patrols at night time, the report said.


The vessels of the coast guard patrol and helicopters of the aviation unit fired missiles from anti-aircraft artillery and missile systems in the daytime and at night.


Rapid reaction forces were deployed to vessels by helicopters, and an imaginary enemy group was neutralized on board during the drills.


In addition, the units also performed tasks on the detection and destruction of unmanned aircraft and subversive boats of the imaginary enemy.


The exercises were carried out on 5-8 October in three stages, Turan news agency said.
