The Baku Serious Crimes Court today convicted 11 Azerbaijani nationals of plotting to carry out terrorist attacks in the country ahead of last year’s Eurovision song contest.Nicat Aliyev, editor of Azadxeber.org website, who was part of the group, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to APA news service.Nine other members of the group received nine to four years in prison.
As many as 40 people were arrested last year on charges of planning terrorist attacks in Baku as the city hosted the musical competition. Some of them were linked to Iran’s Revolution Guards Corps, or Sepah.
