On March 13 Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received a delegation headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Rahimpour.
At the meeting the sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Islamic Republic of Iran and exchanged views on further promotion of economic-trade ties, implementation of transport projects, realisation of humanitarian and cultural programs, broadening of legal-treaty basis and the issues related with the legal status of Caspian Sea.
For further development of cooperation between the two countries the importance of the meeting between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E Mr. Ilham Aliyev and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran H.E. Dr. Hassan Rouhani in Davos was particularly highlighted.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov touching upon the forthcoming Trilateral Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey in Van on March 14th added that the meetings within this framework contribute to furthering the cooperation between our countries.
Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Rahimpour stressing the strategic importance of the Republic of Azerbaijan said that within the visit he would also visit Nakhchivan and would hold bilateral meetings there.
Speaking about the aggression of Armenia against the Republic of Azerbaijan Minister Mammadyarov underlined that withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and return of Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons to their historical lands will contribute to the peace process and thus, will strengthen peace, stability and security in the region.
