Azeri, Georgian presidents discuss Turkey-Russia tensions, security

The Georgian and Azerbaijani presidents have discussed the Turkey-Russia tension and security related issues in the region during their meeting in Baku, the head of the Georgian president's administration, Giorgi Abashishvili, has said. Giorgi Margvelashvili and Ilham Aliyev met on the sidelines of the Fourth Global Baku Forum in Azerbaijan, Rustavi-2 TV channel reported on 10 March.

"Security in the region was one of the main topics discussed between the two presidents. They also spoke about the Russia-Turkey tension. It was stressed by the two presidents that it is important to ensure that the tension does not have a negative impact on the other countries in the region," Abashishvili said.

Margvelashvili and Aliyev also discussed economic and trade cooperation, Abashishvili added.

"Of course there were also talks about cooperation in energy and trade related issues. It was noted that both countries have an important role in economic and trade cooperation with each other as well as with other countries, including the EU," he said.
