Azeri president calls for intensification of joint actions to fight terrorism

President Ilham Aliyev said he is confident that terrorism can only be defeated by joint efforts.

"We all know the current situation in the world. Unfortunately, the threats are increasing. Along with traditional threats, new centers of tension, conflicts, and terrorist threats are rising, and they have now spread to virtually all continents. I have said more than once, including from high international tribunes, and life confirms it, and I am not the only person who thinks so, that it is impossible to ensure the security of any country by working alone. Without cooperation, interaction, uniting efforts in the fight against terrorism, radicalism, and extremism it is very difficult to ensure security," Aliyev said at a meeting with participants in the meeting of the Council of the Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS countries, which was held in Baku on Tuesday.

The president said the idea that there are no good terrorists is increasingly supported worldwide. "One cannot divide terrorists into those who are against your country or the country of your rival or enemy. The fight against terrorism should be global. The events that we see today in our region, unfortunately, in the CIS, in the world, and in Europe, confirm that there is a need for united efforts, information exchange, sincere cooperation between the special services of all countries to avert threats," he said.

Aliyev said Azerbaijan will work on increasing cooperation with its partners. "We all live in a difficult region, the world is changing, the threats are increasing. Terrorist organizations get access to very dangerous types of weapons, technologies, and, of course, all these things cause big concerns. The events in the Middle East, which have virtually gone out of control, terrorist attacks on European capitals, in other regions of the world, the increasing tensions - all these things are today's reality. We are living in the real world and we should react appropriately and avert these threats," he said.
