An Azerbaijani army serviceman shot and killed a fellow soldier and injured another before taking his own life, the Ministry of Defense said.

The incident took place in an unidentified location near the Azerbaijani-Armenian ceasefire line on June 20, the ministry said.

The injured soldier was hospitalized in serious condition.

The motive of the incident is not yet clear. The military prosecutor’s office has started an investigation.

Non-combat deaths in Azerbaijan's largely conscription-based army prompted mass protests last year.
