Baku 2015: Highlights of the day – 24 June

Germany reached the men’s Volleyball semi-finals with a 3-0 win over Serbia and Lukas Kampa showed their determination in the first set by retrieving what looked like a lost cause – and almost ending up in the stands – to help his team win the point.

Basketball is all about the tricks – especially in 3x3 – and Romania’s Angel Santana produced a beauty to set up a score in their win over Israel. Meanwhile, there were many heroes in the swimming pool, and Great Britain’s Luke Greenbank was one of them, holding off a late rally by Russia’s Filipp Shopin to take the 100m backstroke gold by 0.05 of a second.

It was raining spectacular goals on the first day of Beach Soccer, one of which was a stunning long-range strike by Portugal captain Joao Saraiva, better known as Madjer.

In the Boxing, Ireland's Brendan Irvine went on the attack in the third round of his semi-final against Ukraine’s Dmytro Zamotayev and was rewarded with a place in the light flyweight gold medal match.
