Baku traffic in focus as Azeri capital set to host European Olympics

Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, will host the inaugural European Olympic Games next year. 

Construction of the Baku Olympics Stadium and other facilities is in full swing. Preparations are on schedule, Mehriban Aliyeva, head of the organizing committee, said last week.

Ziya Mammadov, the country’s minister of transportation, has decreed to establish a working commission at the ministry to oversee transportation issues during the Olympic Games, said Elnur Abdullayev, director of the Center for Intellectual Management of the Traffic.  

The working commission includes heads of various departments at the Ministry of Transportation. Members of the commission have held meetings with the Organizing Committee, Abdullayev said.

A special headquarters set up at the Center for Intellectual Management of the Traffic is also closely working with the Organizing Committee, he said.
