(Baku Daily) - Police in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, have started an investigation into an arson attack on the Qaracuxur mosque in the city suburbs.
In the early hours of November 26, an unidentified man broke one of the mosque’s windows before throwing Molotov cocktails inside.
Video of the incident filmed by a security camera has gone viral in social networking websites.
The fire was put out by people that were inside the mosque at the time. There has been no report of injuries among the mosque-goers.
Eldar Sultanov, a spokesman for the Prosecutor-General’s Office, said the incident is being looked into by a group of investigators. He said criminal proceedings had been initiated by the Suraxani district police.
Qaracuxur is one of the largest mosques in Baku. Both Sunni and Shiite Muslims pray at the mosque.
The motive of the arson attack is not yet clear.
