The 47th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), an annual academic competition for high school students, will be held in Baku on July 20-29, the Ministry of Education said.
About 80 countries will participate in the Olympiad organised by the Committee of the International Chemistry Olympiad, Azerbaijan's Azertac news agency reported.
According to the news agency, the Education Ministry had signed a relevant order for the 47th International Chemistry Olympiad to be held at a high level.
An Organising Committee has been set up under the chairmanship of Head of the Baku Branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Prof Nargiz Pashayeva.
The first International Chemistry Olympiad took place in the former Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic) in 1968.
The 46th International Chemistry Olympiad which was held in Hanoi, Vietnam last year had attracted 300 students from 75 countries.
According to Azertac, Azerbaijani pupils started to take part in the Olympiad since 2002 and have won five gold, five silver, 14 bronze, generally 24 medals up to now.
