In recognition of his services for global peace and strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries, the Baku State University has conferred an honorary doctorate on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The honorary doctorate was conferred by Rector Academic Abel Maharramdov in an impressive ceremony on Friday [14 October]. Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister thanked the Baku University for
honouring him with the doctorate. He said relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan were based on historical, cultural and social affinities and the ways of life the people of both countries shared. Their fate is shaped
through their common goals and objectives, he added. Nawaz lauded the achievements made by Azerbaijan under the dynamic leadership of Ilham Aliyev and expressed his hope that bonds of friendship between the two countries would grow further. Highlighting the political career of the prime minister, Rector Moharramdov said he was a world-renowned politician who had a long political career for the democratic system in Pakistan. "His re-election during 2013 showed public confidence in his leadership." Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz was given
briefing about the role and function of the university. Students clad in Pakistan national dress also presented national anthem.
