Bayern’s German Cup semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund ended their treble hopes but also took a real toll on their squad, with Lewandowski, Thiago Alcantara and Arjen Robben all sustaining injuries in the penalty shoot-out defeat.
Robben was making his first appearance in over a month but lasted only 16 minutes before feeling a tight calf, while Thiago suffered what the club describe as a "painful knock”.
However, the greatest concern surrounds Lewandowski, who scored Bayern’s goal, after he was clattered by Dortmund keeper Mitchell Langerak. He is almost certain to miss next week's Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona and could be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
According to Polish team doctor Jacek Jaroszewski, "Robert has a fractured jawbone and a concussion."
Lewandowski’s agent, Cezary Kucharski tweeted to say that "after the investigation, it does not look good. I cannot write anymore.”
There are some suggestions in Germany that Lewandowski could miss the rest of the season with a broken jaw, although this has not been confirmed by the club.
More details are expected imminently.
However, there is better news about Thiago, who says he has not suffered an injury.
