Beckham signs up superstar LeBron to launch MLS team

David Beckham is teaming up with one of the biggest sporting names in the world to launch his very own MLS team – NBA superstar LeBron James.Beckham, who retired this summer at the age of 38 following a glittering career across the globe, has previously been guarded about where he wants to found the MLS team he is contractually guaranteed under the terms of his first deal with the American governing body in 2007.But James, a two-time NBA champion and four-time league MVP who currently stars for Miami Heat, confirmed on Monday he has been holding talks with Beckham over creating a team in the city."There's some interest in both sides," James said on Monday. "David has become a good friend of mine over the last few years, and I think it would be great for this city to have a football club for sure."The research is still being made out, but I think it can be huge. But you never know. I think this is a great town for soccer. There are a lot of soccer players here. There is a lot of great youth soccer here."I have grown a great interest in watching the game and learning the guys. It's a pretty intense sport, and my kids love it as well. But I've grown to the point where I know exactly what's going on when I'm watching the game."Beckham has the option to create a new MLS franchise for a fee of $25 million (£15.5m), some $75m less than the fee paid by New York City FC, who are a joint venture between Manchester City and the New York Yankees. In James, Beckham has joined up with arguably the biggest sports star in America, and certainly one of the most recognisable athletes on the planet.James already owns a minor stake in Liverpool having struck a deal with Fenway Sports Group in 2011.(http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/)ANN.Az
